Gerald Ford was never elected to be president or vice-president but instead took office upon the resignation first of Spiro Agnew and then of Richard Nixon. As president, Ford tried to calm earlier controversies by granting former President Nixon a full pardon. Gerald Ford survived two assassination attempts; one by Charles Manson follower “Squeaky” Fromme and another by Sara Jane Moore a mere 17 days later. Ford is sculpted with his golden retriever “Liberty” who frequently shared the Oval Office.
